Hi,

Would anyone please be able to let me know what the best processor is between an i5-2500 (6M cache - 3.30GHz) and a Core2 Quad (Q9400 - 2.66GHz)

I think that for the Core2 Quad it is 4 x 2.66 to give 10.64GHz but I do not know how to compare that with the i5 I have listed above.

Apologies for such a dumb nooby question but I am definitely not up to speed with CPU's. I would like to know if I can expect performance gain from the i5?

Thx

the i5 would smash the Core 2 Quad to smithereens :D

Nice name btw :p

also, it don't matter how many cores it has x clock speed, processor power does not stack like that. hang around here more instead of reading stupid Ebay adverts :)

the i5 is the better processor without a shadow of doubt.

one cannot simple say 2.66GHZ, quad-core therefore its like 10.64GHZ single core, it doesn't work like that.

the i5 is better because not only does it have a higher clock speed than the Q9400 its a more up-to date architecture with higher instructions/cycle so essentially it does more with each MHZ.

Seraph,

Thx for the very quick reply. Would you be able to give a bit more detail in terms of something quantifiable than "smithereens" so I can get my head round it......

Thx
