Hi, long time forum lurker here looking at getting some advice on a home theatre set up. This is is more testing the water for a few ideas as my current set up works but there's a few niggles that I'd like to improve on.
Currently have a Chinese import pico projector Jmgo View which has been fed by a zotac magnus zbox acting as a HTPC. The 720P image produced is sufficient for films the built in speakers produce ample sound for the room and the compactness allows the projector to sit out of the way on the mantelpiece. Down sides seem to be that the lower resolution is a lol more noticeable gaming and due to the small size the fan noise is considerable and both together can break immersion along with a "do you wish to shut down" window that appears unpredictabily that I'm unable to disable.
I'd like to keep to using a projector as use is perhaps a couple of times a week and it's nice having a discreet unit that doesn't dominate the room like a TV. Due to the layout of the room and it beibe rented accommodation a higher end traditional projector would be difficult to use, but these short throw projectors seem to be a possible solution.
I've seen a couple of models I'm interested in but have been unable to locate a store where they can be viewed in person. The Philips screeneo 2 has some good written reviews but struggle to find any english language video reviews or bricks and mortar stores selling it (richer sounds had a blog about but it's not for sale on the site). The other riskier option is the Xiaomi mi Ustinov laser projector, a few more video reviews are available and seem favourable, but downsides are the risk with importing and Chinese menus but with all media coming from the HTpc it looks managable.
Any feed back on these options or alternatives would be great.

I've recently got the projector bug and bought an Optoma GT760 (720p) short throw as a starter project and im somewhat impressed with it.The Xiaomi laser short throw looks amazing and maybe the next one for me if they upgrade the firmware to English menus and have decent input lag for gaming which I do a LOT of. Also have my eye on the Optoma GT1080 Darbee short throw which seems to be slowly coming down in price.

I don't think my TV has been used since I got this projector bug :)

Benq w1210st.

Recently purchased this projector after doing a lot of research.. Awesome projector for the price, short throw and has the lowest input lag of any projector for gaming, the specific gaming mode really makes a difference.

Lots of good reviews on the internet and side by side gives a better picture then the Optoma darbee.
Not the cheapest but worth the extra..I couldn't be any happier with it.

Cheers for the replies, unfortunately I don't think these are quite short throw enough, looking at a minimum throw distance of ~60cm or less so that it can be built into a recess in a table or cabinet, similar to this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUjQ7TEOgXk.
Cheers for the heads up on Optoma though, got me browsing and seen RS stocks their UST project the gt5000+, so at least theres a chance to see it in the flesh, don't think it will be quite as neat a solution as the other two as it looks to be lacking on the audio front but it is a little cheaper so could be supplemented by a sound bar if needed.

we have the Benq w1400, obviously not the W1210st, but have had it 2 years and has been brilliant. we vane the Xbox connected to it and have no complaints at all.

Don't think you can go wrong with that recommendation. I will also go laser when I replace, love the Dell, but 3 years till I do that, and prices will come down a bit by then I hope.
