Is an ULTRA really worth the price hike over a GTX ?
I've been doing as much reading as i can on these cards and i'm still undecided which to get ?
Some reviews and tests claim the ultra is just an overclocked GTX so if thats the case It wouldnt make sense to get an ultra

HELP ME DECIDE PLEASE.

Oh yeah i wont be waiting for the 9800 series I want a card now :)

Ultra IS an overclocked GTX, so just get the OCUK value one for £240 and overclock it yourself.

What resolution are you gaming at? You might want to consider the GTS 512Mb as well for £200. Almost GTX performance for less.

Thanks for the quick replies :) I'll be gaming at 1680 x 1050 Will the overclocked GTX be good enough for crysis at this res ?
Why do people buy the ULTRA if its just an OC GTX ? Strange :)

Just get the GTX, will clock to Ultra speeds. :)

Yeah but you can overclock an ULTRA as well and it will usually clock a lot higher, look at mine. You won't get the RAM near ultra speeds for a start, it uses higher clocked RAM anyway?

They are not the same cards. If you can get an ULTRA cheap enough, get it if you want the most powerful single card available. :) I got mine for just under 270 on the bay, I suggest you have a look.

Sounds like a GTX will be the right choice then :) I was also thinking that in 6 months or so SLI would be the way to go , any comments or suggestions on SLI ?

Thanks for the comments round dogger, I notice in your sig the speeds of your ULTRA would you know what sort of speeds a GTX will OC upto?

lol dogger. :)

I'm not 100% but I think most GTX (on air) top out around 630-660 core and 2100 max on the RAM but every card is different.

My ultra can clock to 710 without any issues but I back it off to 700 and runs sweet as. The shader goes from 1500-odd stock to 1800 and no probs with ATI tool.

NOTHING is good enough for crysis at that res, so just get the best value for money card atm, either the GTX if you like playing games with AA & AF or 8800GTS 512Mb.

I See, I just dont get it how can they release a game and no hardware can really max it out
Looks like a GTX for me then. Has anybody tried crysis with SLI GTX's ? what sort of results does this achieve

They say that the game is developed with future hardwares in mind so it will still look very good in a year or two.

You can't get smooth frame rate on current generation graphics card with everything maxed but it is still playable if you turn it down a bit to high/medium without losing too much eye candy.

I see so with the 9 series cards coming out soon then we should see people with all the eye candy and high fps. I am really tempted to wait for the 9 series but I do expect them to be quite a bit more expensive than the 8 series Thats why I'm gonna take the plunge now :)
