Hi guys, looking for some advice on an ultra-wide angle lens for my Canon 700D. I'm just a beginner so I don't really have a particular style, but I'm interested in doing more landscape/architecture shots.

I've currently got an 18-135 STM kit lens which I think is great, and a nifty fifty (that's the law, right?!). I've done some landscape shots with the kit lens and have been fairly happy with the results, but I like the perspective that the wider lenses can give.

So the main question... is there anything better than the canon 10-22 on a crop frame? Some thoughts from people that have owned one would be great. I noticed that it doesn't have IS so what's the sharpness like? What's it like when shooting handheld? With landscapes I'll be using a tripod but just wondered if you can get away without one when on a random walk about town, etc?

Any other advice would be great!

Thanks for the suggestions guys.
russ, that sigma looks good - love the 3rd pic!

I think I'd probably prefer something with a bit more range than the 11-16 although that does seem to get some really good reviews.

That's really useful, thanks - al4x I'll have a read through your thread as well. At the moment it's looking like it's between the sigma 10-20 and the canon 10-22 as they have a bit more of a range that I was looking for. The sigma looks like it's really good value for money. Are there any issues with build quality with either of these?

Interesting. There's also a version of the sigma which has f3.5 rather than f4-5.6. My main concern with the sigma is that there's a lot of reviews around of people getting bad copies - I know you can replace them but I could do without the hassle, plus being a relative novice I wouldn't be confident at diagnosing many optical abnormalities!

I can afford the canon so the price isn't really an issue if it's going to be the best overall package.

Thanks for all the samples and comments, really appreciate the input. It's seems like a fairly even split so you haven't helped me at all! :p

I think I'm going to go for the canon as it seems to be a bit more consistent through the range, and also the production quality appears to be more consistent from what I've read.
