So on Monday I will be shopping for an additional monitor for my Rig.

I currently have an Asus PB278Q.

As the new monitor would replace my current monitor (which will be used as a secondary) I am obviously looking for an upgrade in some way.

From all the reading I have done Its either UltraWide 3440x1440 or 144hz as 4K doesn't interest me at this current time.

Initially I did want the Asus PG279Q ROG Swift But I can't Justify the price tag of £799.99.

So I have the Asus MG279Q ROG Dominator in mind, which will be near on the same panel as my current one but with a 144Hz upgrade.

Any advice or information will be great.

Cheers

There is definitely something about Ultra wide that is pulling me towards it. Just not sure what ones are the go to at a good price.

I got a few friends that are trying to push me towards higher Hz.

But I do like to be different and an Ultra Wide is a lush looker.

Something about ultrawide you just cant shake once youve used it, I had Samsung S34E790C now got a Acer X34.

Exactly.

AOC 34" ultrawide is fantastic for 60hz none curved too. Curved I had to return a Dell ultrawide because of many issues with it blb, fish eye effect on parts of the screen, worse ips glow than flat screens. .etc etc. The AOC can be had for £500 a bargain compared to the Dell and LG screens. But if you want more than 60hz onĺy options at 3440x1440 are the acer screens and I have never tried one, but they didn't interest me as they were again curved.

I'm very tempted to get an Ultra Wide. I'm just unsure as to what one to get.

Its still that old question of is 144hz better than ultra wide.

144hz is nice and ultrawide is wow... for me ultrawide wins over hz. Also £1000 for the same panels but with g-sync and binned panels to get to 75/100hz is silly to me. Also my AOC 34" U3477PQU overclocks to 75hz and didn't try higher as I didn't want to abuse it, I called AOC and they said it depends on the luck of the draw really and 75hz is safe and any higher may risk problems. £500 ... rather have 2 AOC than 1 for £1000.

As purgatory says 144hz is nice but ultrawide is . Infact i just had the same dilemma as you, I went for the dell 3415w ultrawide and its just so good even at 60hz, 16:9 screens just look so last year.:p

its a personal thing, I have 144hz and tried UW but it couldn't justify the price for me
I'm also not a proponent of IPS as I tend to game in lower light, and the UW's have even brighter corners than 16:9 IPS, so playing anything with dark content was a complete no no

I'll try UW again when they have OLED or something that doesn't suffer from the problems with IPS

I knew Ultra wide would be nice, I just didn't know how nice till I got the X34, tbh afterward I don't think I could go 16:9 again, nice thing about the X34 if you could stretch your budget you past half way to 144hz as well. Two birds with one stone, the difference between 60 and 100hz is black and white.

Another X34 owner here and very happy with the display, it's even got me replaying allot of my library of games to see what they are like in 21:9. Gsync is also very impressive and completes the package. 10/10

I agree the Acer Predator X34 Is a very nice monitor However if I was going to spend this amount of money on one I would Rather settle with the Asus PG348Q ROG Swift 34 at only £10 more from a better brand in my opinion.

The problem being they're £1000 which is far far to high to be fair. If the monitor was 144hz It could be more justifiable but at only 100Hz I think its a monopoly price at the moment.

Although they are very very nice.

I would love to hear some opinions from people that have both had 144Hz and Ultra Wide and how they both stack up in various uses.

I love GSync and 144hz.

That said if you do go 144hz, don't get the RoG Dominator, get the Acer version for £50 more if you want Freesync, as the Dominator's Freesync range is only up to 90hz.

I love my 144hz swift and couldn't game on anything under 100hz and still feel comfortable. 144hz for me coupled with G-sync is just awesome. I'll be keeping it until a 4k 144hz panel.

But it also depends on preference aswell. I can tell the difference between 100,120,144 and 165hz. 100 definitely feels more choppy to me vs 144 that's smooth as butter. But others may not be able to notice it.

I would try if you can before you decide.

I went from 27in ips none gsync to 40in 4K , to 34in ultra wide 100hz gsync to 3x 27in 144hz gsync and the later js just freaking awesome ..even my 2x 980ti copes very very well and we'll over 100 fps in project cars is just amazing ..not the colours of IPS but with a bit of digital vibrance added ita as good as ips those new dells ..shame my 2nd and 3rd panel arrived with minor faults of 1 dead pixel and 1 dirt under the screen ..very minor though and now they have been exchanged and can't wait to set them up again tomorrow and once they are both good will go ahead and get the triple arm and mount them .I will post pics on my project log build next week if screens are fine ..my first dell screen arrived perfect !.

I was only getting it as its the 144Hz upgrade to my 60Hz. the monitor is near identical apart from this. I also have NVIDIA so the Freesync is pointless.

But how would 1 27" 144Hz stack up against the Ultra Wide? If you had to pick out the 2 what would you go for and why
