I hate all things Apple but I've been looking at the ultrabook range and comparing it to the Airbook.

Have to say the ultrabooks are just like cheaper renditions of the airbook.

I do like the toshiba but for the money I'm thinking of taking the plunge on an airbook which I will format and install Win7 on.

Anyone have any views on this or own an ultrabook/airbook?

I am thinking of replacing my main rig with one of these so it's a pretty tough decision!

For the money some of the less than special spec Windows based "ultrabooks" (/shudder) the Macbook Air is the clear winner. Spend the little extra

My main issue with that "little extra" is it's about the price of another laptop! £500

Ideally need to test drive to see if I can do all my required tasks on one first. Might see if I can pickup a cheapy on the bay.

mrbell - not anymore, thatks did not know i was breaking a rule :)

Well you're talking a "premium" product. You're sacrificing performance for size. Might as well do it right :)

If you look after it an Apple product holds it's resale value far better than a Windows box. In 3 years or whenever you upgrade you'll probably get quite a bit of that difference back

I looked hard at some of the Ultra books/MBA and just could not justify that kind of money.

I really wanted a small form factor to replace my HP DM1 which just did not have the power that l wanted while "travelling", so opted for an M11x R3 l got cheap refurbished, have now thrown in a 256gb SSD and 8gb of ram and am more than happy as this has cost less than getting and ultra book.

I just couldn't go with the mac OS, its true you can run windows on a MBA but isn't that just defeating the point of the MBA. Don't get me wrong, I have an iphone4s and love apple products but when it comes to a pc I need and want windows.

So for me the Dell offering is the best suited right now, round the corner there are new chipsets that will change the ball park again but there always is around the corner :)

The MacBook air is definitely one of the best ultra books. But you should still read some reviews comparing it and the windows based machines, they aren't anywhere near as rubbish as the replies in this thread suggest.

One good article is the anandtech review of the dell ultra book that they published recently.

If you don't mind waiting, ivy bridge will be interesting for ultra books because of the increased graphics performance and lower power consumption.

Pretty much every review for a windows ultrabook compares it to the MBA, ether favourably or not. Just do a search on You Tube.
