So I'm getting my little brother a big upgrade for Christmas, An Ultrawide 34" 120Hz+ monitor but I'm unsure which to get.

He has an Nvidia 2080 so I want to get him a fully fledged G-Sync monitor, My choices so far are -

Acer Predator X34P 120Hz

Asus ROG PG349Q 120Hz

Both monitors spec wise seem to be the exact same 120Hz overclockable AH-IPS panel from LG but the ROG one is £200 more for whatever reason.

Any input is appreciated.

Same display just the ROG tax.

Personally I think the ROG is awful in both design and functionality. Do we really need a red ROG light shinning downwards on the desk and the tripod style stand doesn't sit well; it sticks way out to the back of the monitor meaning you can't push it up to a wall very well.

Id personally get the x34p if I had the choice. I’ve had the 100hz version before which I thought was great.

I’ve tried the pg349q recently and didn’t like it. They have too tight of a curve resulting in really bad ips glow in my opinion. The ASUS in dark games was almost unplayable.

One of the big downsides to ips ultrawides.

I’d personally depending on what he has get him a high refresh rate 1440p monitor. Quite a few 32” and 27” options, even the 240hz Lenovo and hp omen (freesync) which has tempted me recently.

Keep an eye out for cheap pricing on the Alienware AW3418DW. It's been replaced by a newer screen so prices may ease a little. Check for any work discounts or if you know someone who is in the forces or NHS they can get a blue light card which gives a discount too.
