I want to get an ultrawide monitor and have been looking at the Iiyama GB3461WQSU-B1. However, I'm not sure what it'll be like gaming on it with my 1080 ti. I had planned on getting a 3080 but I've resigned myself to waiting till the new year now when, hopefully, more stock will be available. Just considering buying now due to the Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals.

So I had a 1440p Ultrawide with a standard 1080 and it was actually OK. Remember it's only a small amount above a 16:9 1440p Monitor (3,686,400 Pixels) compared to a 21:9 (4,953,600, only 1,271,200 pixels extra, around 33% more) and compare that to 4k (8,294,400) it's not as massive a jump as 1440p to 4k is. I only upgraded as games like Division 2 were struggling without majorly having to dial down the settings to hit 60FPS. I went for a 2070 Super and saw a significant increase in performance. What games are you looking at? Cyberpunk for example will always look best with RTX.

Currently playing WoW but I play lots of different games. I will be getting Cyberpunk eventually but not one for getting games on release day now, think that's an age thing for me!

If the new GPU releases weren't so buggered up I'd have a new one but such is life.

I have a 100hz 1440 ultra wide and 1080ti and games are perfectly playable if you lower a few settings.

You'll need a new card if you want to really crank things up but it's not a requirement to have one to use an ultrawide

I've just ordered that very monitor and I have a 1080ti, so I'll let you know!

I have a Iiyama GB3461WQSU-B1 and a 1080Ti and it's actually very nice. I mean you aren't going to be hitting 144FPS in most games but then again even the very highest end cards struggle with that in brand new games. I play things like GTA V with reasonably high settings and get like 90-110 FPS at 3440*1440 and it looks absolutely fantastic in UW. Red Dead 2 is obviously a bit more demanding but even that is above 60FPS and if you dial back some of the settings which aren't that important then you can easily increase that.

Yes, it's a trade off but I absolutely love the UW aspect and whilst I would love a new high end GPU (and had set aside funds for one) they are obviously incredibly difficult to get a hold of and are also very expensive as a result so I'll stick with the 1080Ti for a while yet. Also works great with GSync so it still looks great.

Let's not start on the issues with the actual monitor itself though as I've just had mine replaced by Iiyama only to be sent a completely dead monitor :)

The 1080ti is perfectly acceptable with a 3440x1440 monitor. You should be in a good framerate for most games. Only the really difficult ones are you going to wish you had some more power.
So yes, I would recommend going for the monitor now and upgrading to a 3080 a little later.

Iiyama are great value, but unlike some I can name, I have always been impressed with their customer services. If you do have a problem with the monitor they are usually very understanding and helpful.

Thanks, just not sure whether to get a curved or flat monitor now!

Its great. Main desktop rig uses 1080Ti's with a 3440 x 1440 panel and works great.

It is a great experience and will have no qualms with it. Make some smart tweaks to some settings and it will be a great experience with even modern games. Playing Assassins creed Valhalla right now, make some tweaks and it get a nice mix of FPS and visuals.

I do also had a 3090 which broke and sent back yesterday amusingly and 3080 for my HTPC in living room, as expected when I hooked up the 3090 to the same monitor, could crank up settings and get higher FPS, but dropping down to the 1080ti Rig, I make a few compromise settings get into the game and am none the wiser for most the part. 1080Ti is still such a rock solid card and will do fine with the panel.

I would go curve, at that size it does work well I think, edges bend in to you pretty nicely.

I am about to get my first curved monitor, but I have had several large flat monitors. I can tell you that flat just doesn't seem right when you are sat at a normal monitor distance. The edges just seem too far away. I believe that flat is a bad idea if you use any kind of design apps where you need to be able to judge straight lines and so on but otherwise curved is better. I remember when curved first came out there was scepticism about the format but now everyone seems to go for curved.
