ok sorry, another thread in general as im not 100% sure which section (mobo, soundcard, windows) this would best suit.
basically, i finally got my tv wired up as my second monitor via hdmi, so, my question is, as the monitor is connected via DVI and the speakers are connected to the onboard soundcard, and the tv is connected via hdmi so the sound goes through, well that but i assume the onboard soundcard too, would it be possible to have, in an extended desktop setup, the sound from the picture/app on the monitor going to the speakers, and the sound from the picture/app on the tv going through the tv speakers or would this need a second soundcard and massive hassle?

You "can" in theory send specific apps through specific audio devices (in this case HDMI and 3.5mm sound card jack). But it completely depends on the app in question.

This would however involve you having to change which audio device does what, each time you move an app from one screen to the other (nothing will do this automatically for you).

I'd not see it as a particularly elegant or even workable solution.
