was reading in another thread that if i am not using features such as onboard sound i should turn them off as it will free up IRQ's.

if i was to turn of all un-needed features would the overall performance be greater. the computer will primaraly be used for gaming so every little helps.

I doubt you'll see much performance improvement in games but by disabling devices you reduce the number of drivers which need to be loaded at boot time.

my brother was complaining of a Very slow start up time, windows loading etc.
it turned out to be his Tascam external audio thingie.

i dissabled all onboard audio and midi and Woosh.

also... try just not turnign your PC off :D lol

not sure about anyone else but windows takes ageees to boot after i have installed sp2. im not talking about logging on as a user into windows, im talking about where you see the wee blue/green bar going accross before *** logon screen.

Onboard devices draw power to the mobo so disabling them will lighten the load drawn from the PSU.

Performance wise you wont see a huge improvement but it will help, and as 2 posts above, in some cases it solves problems.

I have my onboard lan, sound, com ports, serial ports and unused ide ports disabled. I'd like to think it makes a difference.

After all, whats better onboard video or external (graphics card)?....... it works that same way for other parts, generally means you have a piece of hardware (not mobo) that independantly deals with its task, taking stress and work off the most vital part in your PC, the mobo.
