I work as the IT technician in a school where we have recently bought 20 iPads for the students to use in lessons. My colleague, the ICT subject co-ordinator used the MacBook we bought to administer the iPads to set the iPads up using Apple Configurator.

Today a colleague borrowed an iPad to film a short 2 minute video for our yearly school production, which is to be performed on Tuesday next week. I was given the iPad back and asked to take the video off and prepare it for the production. I found that when I plugged the iPad into my Windows PC that I was unable to see the iPad and so I am unable to copy the video over. I tried to email the video over to me but the iPad told me that the video is too big to email.

When I connected the iPad to the MacBook that was used to configure it I was expecting to be able to access the video but I couldn't see the iPad listed in Finder.

Is there anything I can do that will allow me to get the video off the iPad tomorrow?

Hey,

Plug the Ipad into a mac and open image capture. It will mount and bring up all the photos and videos that have been taken from the iPad. Find the movie you need and import it.

Thanks

Jono

Hi Jono. Thanks for your reply. This week and next are the two busiest weeks in the school year for me as next Thursday is Leavers night where our Year 11 and 13s leave us for college. Guess who has to produce the Leavers book and print 50 copies by next Thursday? :D

So being lumped with this iPad video problem at the last minute for the school production next week really is something I want to get rid of.

When I plugged the iPad into the MacBook and got nothing I eventually ended up in iPhoto to see if I could import the video that way. What I saw was buttons greyed out because the iPad was "loading". It didn't move from that so I packed up as it was time to go home. Is Image Capture an app or something? I don't have much experience with Macs so you'll have to spell these things out quite simply to me! :o

Hey,

Image capture comes pre installed on macs and should load up the photos/videos without any issues. if you cant find it on the mac, click on the spotlight icon (magnify glass) in the top right and begin to type image capture and it should pop up. if the iPad is plugged in it should automatically detect it and load up the pictures and videos. Then you can chose to either import files individually or all of the files to the Mac.

If the iPad is not showing in image capture try replugging it in or try another usb port. Please note i have had a fea people trying to plug their iPads/iPhones into the usb port on the keyboard and 9/10 times there is not enough power from those ports, so best to plug directly into the Mac.

Thanks

Jono

Cool thanks. You've been most helpful. :)

I'm using a MacBook so the iPad is plugged directly into the machine itself. I'll use another port if I have the same problem tomorrow but hopefully image capture will sort me out.
