My PC had been running file for 6+ months up until today. I was enabling developer mode on win10 to try out the bash for Windows feature when it asked to restart.

When I came back, the PC was off would not turn on. No response from the power switch or power button on the motherboard. Resetting the CMOS sorted this issue, but the PC would then start but show the error code 76 with no video output. I the. Used the quick flash feature to update the BIOS to the latest version with no difference in functionality. I also did the following:

Plugged in an extra CPU power cable (for a total of 2x 8pin)
Removed all the RAM
Removed the GPU
Unplugged all external devices

Each time the same error code was shown. The blue diag CPU led was lit at the same time as the 76 error code.

My specs that matter in this case are the following:
Asus x99-m WS
I7 6800k (stock clock)
Corsair HX750i

Also...
Gigabyte 1070 windforce 3
4x 16GB HyperX fury DDR4

Is there any way I can easily tell which of the components has the problem? Sending them back for RMA will take a long time and postage is expensive if one of the components turns out not to be faulty. Getting replacements just for testing would be pretty expensive too given that it's X99.

Suggestions?

Edit - I also tested by removing the RAM (leaving one stick, as well as no sticks), and unplugging everything other than the CPU from the motherboard (leaving the 8pin and 24pin power in place) Still got the same error.

Hiya, can't offer much help but i did find this https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?19387-Maximus-V-Gene-q-code-76/page2

Have looked everywhere, but not that much actual info on this problem. Lot's seem to have had problems but very few seem to know why.

Would suggest calling Overclockers & asking them directly, cause the causes seem to be mostly power related.

Here is 1 of the many examples I found. https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?19387-Maximus-V-Gene-q-code-76/page2

I hope u get much better advice from the large X99 crowd here.....

Thanks. I noticed that thread and did try out connecting different cables. The thread mentions that the OP connected a 4pin to the 8pin CPU, but i had the 8 pin connected to the 8pin cpu. There are actually 2x 8pin CPU sockets on the motherboard so i connected both but there was the same issue.
