I upgraded my computer today with Gigabyte Z77X-UD3H - i7 3770 - and 16Gb Ram. However the boot crashes at the windows start up animation then goes to blue screen. It then prompts to restore or repair but that doesn't work.

There is a debug LED on the mono which shows AE after it crashes which is apparently "Boot to Legacy OS'. Which I'm not sure what that means.

In the BIOS settings it shows the info for the CPU and RAM so I dont think those parts are the issue.

Any help is appreciated.

you need to pop in the bios and set sata ports from ahci to ide, once booted into windows you can do a simple reg tweak so you can go back to using ahci

ahci is set default on gigabyte z77 boards thats why its blue screening at start up

im asuming you didnt do a clean windows install?

what did you upgrade from? may be the installation of windows doesnt like the new hardware and you may have to do a clean install, also make sure you have all the connectors pugged in properly

I didn't do a clean install after hardware. I did one yesterday. Ill try the BIOS settings change now

Changing settings didn't let me boot. Its probably worth mentioning windows is installed on a SSD.

Upgraded from old 775 mobo with Q6600.

I guess Ill try a clean install then.

I tried repair which didn't work, but diagnostics says a root cause is found: a patch is preventing the system for starting

OK guys currently installing win7. Its looking good so far. Ill update in a bit
