Unable to connect HDMI cable

Just bought a new graphics card for a secondary PC. The case is some no-name crap, so, while the card fits in fit, I am unable to connect the HDMI cable to the card.

The DVI cable can connect fine.

However, because the card sits quite high in the slot at the back of the case, the plastic cover over the HDMI cable prevents the HDMI male lead from inserting fully into the graphics card. You can see that there is also some stupid triming on the case at the top of the grapics card slot which also gets in the way.

Basically, I think that I need an HDMI cable with a longer male connector, or with a very low profile head (i.e. the plastic covering must not protude much).

Uhh, what a stupid problem to have.

here's a picture of what I am talking about: https://www.dropbox.com/s/bwktzpnxhlpit1b/20151218_175516.JPG?dl=0

DVI to HDMi cable?

Cut the case a little to make room for the HDMI?

Use a lighter and burn away a bit of plastic off the end of the HDMI and whilst it's hot, use a knife and mold it too what you need.

If you unscrew the PCI bracket screw is there any wiggle room for you to insert the lead and then screw it back in?

Failing that DVI to HDMI cables are cheap and effective. It's the same signal iirc with a different connector. You'll lose audio though.

How will a DVI to HDMI cable help? Sorry for sounding ignorant.

I need both outputs on the graphics card as I'm running a dual monitor setup.

Exactly what I was going to suggest after reading the OP and seeing the picture. I had the exact same thing on a friend's brand new machine. Simply popped the side off, loosened the PCI slot screws holding the GPU in place, pushed the card gently down a touch and did the screws back up. Moved the HDMI port enough to enable the cable to push home fully. :)

I had this problem, if you don't care about the back of the case (like I didn't), just use some cutters to cut out the metal on the case. It is usually thin enough to just twist the small section you are talking about out.

Edit - I see on your pic you would have to drop your card (if possible) to a lower slot then twist one of the metal sections out. Where it is at the moment you could just use a pair of snips to make some more room round the HDMI port.

Loosening the bracket and trying again seems to be the best option.

Failing that,I would cut back the plastic on the HDMI cable. I've had to do this before with USB cables when the design means it can't be plugged in.
