Ever start something only to wish you never bothered?

I decided it would be fun to salvage some parts from my old laptop and build an ITX based fanless system.

I salvaged fom the laptop:
Corsair CMSX8GX3M2A1600C9 NB Vengeance Performance 8GB (2x4GB) 1600MHz CL9 DDR3 SO-DIMM Memory Two Module Kit.

Plextor M56M 128GB mSATA SSD

Seagate 500GB 2.5" SSD Hybrid Drive

OcUK Combo Card BT+WLAN

And to complete I bought:

Akasa Euler Case (comes with external 120W PSU 19v 6.32A)
Gigabyte H81TN Motherboard (eBay New)
Intel i5 4590t (eBay Used)

I assembled it all, the power switch works, light comes on but that's it. No output to screen via HDMI.

Any tips? It's a pain to take apart but I have done several times to check everything looks right / removed 1 stick of memory, no change.

Any guidance from here greatly appreciated!

Well CPU support was in the initial BIOS release (F4), the CPU has an iGPU, the memory is of the correct voltage (1.5v), so take a step back. Take the board out of the case, build with a known good PSU, clear CMOS, strip out the WLAN/BT card and drives and test the HDMI lead. If that doesn’t work plug a GPU in to test.

Thanks for taking the time to reply Avalon.

I'm now thinking the board potentially has an earlier revision bios than the F4 required.
The Gigabyte site makes it look like F4 is initial release, but I've seen in the reviews on amazon for the very similar H87tn board that it shipped with F2 revision and needed an older cpu to be used to update the bios before it would work with Haswell refresh chips.

I've rolled the dice and bought an i3-4130T to test the theory.
