Now I am not a noob at this and I have tried everything to install SP1. It always gets to 10% and reverts back.
Tried the Microsoft fix. Have also tried repairing windows from my installation disk, but this keeps telling me I am running a different version of windows, which it can't be as its installed from that disk. Its the only one I have

Mine came with 2 discs. 32bit and 64 bit. Maybe yours did and they have become separated?

Tried downloading the SP1 update from the website and installing it instead of through the update panel?

Get an sp1 iso from digital river (Google it) and reinstall w7 using that. Back your files up first. I'd do a clean install.

Yes I know I can do that or slipstream mine. But I didn't really want to start again when I had all my programs/games installed.
But I guess its going to be the only way.

Or I wait till Win 8.1 is released and just buy that (even though I could not stand Win8)

What could you not stand about it?

I found it odd at first, but when I started using it, I found I used it in exaclty the same way as Windows 7.

I pin programs I use every day to my taskbar and have a few shortcuts on the desktop. I never used the start menu in 7 and I don't use it in 8.
