Hey all.
I am trying to install Windows 7 on my Microserver from USB. I am aiming for Windows 7 on an SSD (On port 5 Sata) and a striped 1x1tb raid.
All works well until I try to select a drive/partition to install it to, but it cannot see any.

If I try the latest driver it can't find it when I try to load driver.
If I use the next-latest driver it lets me select it but then complains about being an unsigned driver and won't progress.

I have tried following this video:

3:30-4:00 is where the problem lies.

I am totally stuck!
Any pointers? :).

Have you followed the instructions to go to the BIOS to make sure the VID folder is visible after boot.

You need to boot to the bios and search through to find this! did mine a while ago and cant remember which section it is in! Just go through them all. The VID folder contains the drivers that win 7 uses for the HDD

You also need other drivers mentioned here:

This is where it is

VID:
1. Reboot the server and press F9 during POST to access RBSU or UEFI System Utilities.
◦ In the RBSU, navigate to Advanced Options→Advanced System ROM Options→Virtual
Install Disk.

It needs to be enabled.

Page 24 of HP Intelligent Provisioning User Guide for
HP ProLiant Gen8 Servers.

When using the Manual Installation method, the Virtual Install Disk (VID) is enabled
automatically, and a USB mass-storage device appears with the name of the VID during
the OS installation process. The VID contains a limited set of storage and networking
drivers, so any required SAS/iSCSI/FCoE adapter can be loaded in the event that the
OS disc does not have the appropriate drivers.

Mine wasn't enabled for Windows 7

Many thanks for the responses!
I have now enabled VID and tried to load every driver, but the ones it does say are compatible complain about being an unsigned driver.
Just checking my Windows USB install....I may have been a complete n00b and put 32 bit on it (unlikely but worth a check!).

When I did this I didn't have to load a driver

1. made the SSD a single raid item
2. stuck in a win 7 DVD into a portable DVD drive attached to USB 2.

Windows ran up, recognised the SSD as the place to install windows (presumably having chosen the correct driver.
Then just installed win7 and its several hundred updates!

Try this method?

Hey all.
Turns out my Windows ISO was playing up.
The VID worked, but then didn't allow me to create a partition.
I could only create a new partition during the Windows install if my SSD was the only drive visible. I did need the drivers I was originally trying to load from my USB.

Thanks for the help guys!

Possibly because the microserver treats the lowest number drive as the boot drive and if other drives are connected they are lower numbers?
