Having a bit of bother here and hopefully some kind soul will know the answer to my troubles. Long story short is that I'm running FF v1.5.0.8 (tried v2 and didn't like it) and 48 hours ago (give or take) I lost the ability to save JPEGs from the web.
Right-click > Save Image As > Save Image window appears and no file extension is present. If I save the file as normal I get the Windows 'unknown filetype' icon in place of my JPEG.
I've so far tried:
One thing to note is that I found JPG wasn't associated to any one program in Folder Options > File Types (JPEG was) but that hasn't changed anything. I've also tried saving the JPEGs from IE and that works fine, so it looks like a FF problem.

- Clearing Private Data
- Removal of all extensions
- Removal of FF
- Updating FF
- Roll-back of FF
- Creating a new profile
- Deleted downloads.rdf file
- Run FF in safe mode
- Reset browser.download.pluginOverrideTypes in config
- Reset plugin.disable_full_page_plugin_for_types in config
- System Restore
