Recently, I've been having an issue with Windows 10 updating, as in, it won't.

Every time I turn my computer off, it tries to install an update, but upon turning it on, the installer gets to 90% and tells me "We couldn't complete the update - undoing changes"

Not entirely sure what the culprit is, as I've never experienced it before.

I think it may be as a result of moving the master boot record from. Essentially, had a 120GB SSD, added a new 500GB one. Got another 500GB, moved windows to the first 500GB one, and when unplugging the 120GB SSD, the PC wouldn't boot. Found out I had to move the MBR to the C: drive.

I can't recall having done any updates since then.

Check the update history and find the KB number for the update that's failing. Then Google the update number and see if other people are having the same problem and if they found a solution.

Also Google 'repair windows update' and you'll find guides with the basic steps you can take.

Have tried this and at the time, I couldn't find anything.

Will check again :)

Thanks for the tip

Often in this case making a USB stick using the media creation tool with the latest updated version and updating from that fixes it and you could try the update troubleshooter in the control panel.

Seems to be increasing number of people of late with Windows 10 who get stuck in a loop of Windows trying to install updates and failing either spending a long time each boot up only to revert and then do the same thing again next boot or an obscure error number that vaguely points at an internet connection problem when applying updates and trying all over again constantly (despite other systems on the same connection updating fine).

I ended up using an external SSD, but when trying to run the updater, I'm getting: http://prntscr.com/l1ei14

Just had to re install windows - couldn't find any other way of sorting it out.

Definitely worth making sure you migrate your install to your new SSD properly - I didn't :P

I'm also facing the same issue during Windows patch update. I think there is some glitch in Windows 10. Most users are facing the same issue. You post this problem on Windows official problem. Maybe an expert will provide a better answer.
