Started having problems when launching Utorent in that after it is launched, the second after - firefox/IE does not allow me to browse to any websites until about 20 minutes later just as if I was not connected to the internet. Even when I close Utorent right after launching it - I am still unable to browse the internet.

The strange thing is that I am still able to freely chat on vent, however the problem has slowly started to spread to MSN in that it disconnects too.

Router - Linksys wrt54gs V7 - updated to latest firmware

ISP - Virgin Media 10 MB

P.S this problem occurs on desktop PC & am able to browse on internet wirelessly through sisters laptop when the problem is occuring on main PC

I use utorrent, and it tends to saturate my connection. If I need to torrent anything I leave it running on my server, and all other pcs go slow as hell. But Teamspeak is unaffected. If you use the scheduler and cut the upload / download speeds by half it runs fine. Try limiting the upload, as my ftp programs do this while uploading to web pages too.

I do limit it to 25kb/s although it can easily reach 60+

If I was to now open utorrent, then shut it literally 2 seconds later - not giving it time to start downloading or uploading - firefox will still act as if I'm not connected to the internet :S and will not start working as normal until about 15-20 mins later

Look in your event log and see if you have any warnings about reaching the TCP/IP limit. If so either reduce your half open connections, and connections in general or Google for the fix (increasing the Windows limit).

I've enabled the log in Linksys settings but it only displays the incoming and ongoing connections and their ips + ports.

When I started Utorrent the outgoing connections went mental.

Ive been looking through the settings in my NIC and found "Number of Receive/Transit Buffers" and have increased the values for both to see if that makes a difference.

if your router supports it, would QoS help?

Just found a section on it within my router settings - how would you suggest filling it in, having a section for utorrent, one for firefox, one for msn?

Thanks

Turn down the number of connections utorrent is set to open.

Have done to no effect. I have port forwarded utorrent with my PC - yet when I go to "Test if port is forwarded correctly" it states that it does not appear to be open. Ive made myself a static ip address and configured it within the settings of the router. :S

How far did you turn it down?
If it says the port isn't forwarded, and you've forwarded the port, there's something wrong with a firewall somewhere.

"OK! Port 34152 is open and accepting connections"

Thats strange as I've set the port to be 34151 but utorent has changed it to the above by itself. I'll see if this makes any changes.

Ok, I've found a fix, am downloading now and browsing firefox with no problems - was something to do with NOD32 in the end. For anyone else who experiences this symptons heres the fix:

Instructions for ESET NOD32 Anti-virus (Version 3.0)

1. Goto "Setup"
2. Toggle "Advanced Mode" if you have not done so yet
3. Click "Antivirus and antispyware" (located under "Setup")
4. Under "Web access protection" click on "Configure.."
5. A setup menu will appear. Expand the "HTTP" tree
6. Click on "Web browsers".
7. Find the uTorrent.exe file and hit the check box until a red cross appears next it.
8. VOILA Firefox and IE will now work whilst running uTorrent.

I am using Nod now after having had the same probs with Kaspersky - though it was not bad with Nod.I am using a 9450 with 4 Gig of ran so maybee that makes a difference. However I have now implimented your instructions Many thanks >With 02 its click fast!
