You'll have to forgive me if I'm using the wrong terminology here as i'm an utter noob in ubuntu.

Many months ago my brother set up ubuntu for me on a shuttle server which resides under my TV downstairs. It has a few bits of software on it which I can access from my other machine by navigating to the servers IP addy in a web browser. Two options come up on the screen, Download Manager and TV Manager. Clicking either of these links would take me to the respective app on the server.

For some reason about 4 or 5 hours after installing win7 on my PC I am unable to do this. It was working perfectly when I first had it installed but I guess I must have fiddled with something somewhere which stopped it from working. Now if I go to the servers IP I still get the two options, but if I click on them I get "Oops! Google Chrome could not find ". A similar problem occurs in IE.

More bizarrely, if I start my virtual ubuntu box on my Win7 machine I can access it perfectly! Trying from my xp64 virtual machine results in the same problem as Win7.

Does anyone have any clue a) what i'm talking about or b) why my PC cant access it but the Ubuntu virtual box can?

I would imagine that the links are linking to ports on the other computer which have been blocked by windows. Have you changed any security settings?

Could you copy and paste the link destination when you navigate to your Linux server. I would imagine the format to be similar to:

http://server:5000
