Using a Windows 7 Pro SP1 desktop, previously had no problems with it.

I am unable to detect any wireless networks, I have two laptops which work fine and my mobile, PS3 and TV all connect to the router OK. This computer has previously had no issues.

Tried:

Uninstalling AVG
Disabling windows firewall
Unistalling the hardware/reinstalling the hardware
Running the "troubleshooter"

Nothing has worked so far, still just shows the wireless icon and a red cross.....

I can't connect the computer to the router via cable due to the distance.

Any software with it that might of disabled the Windows Wireless service? I know things like Netgear does this

Not that I am aware of, not installed any new software. I did run quite a few windows updates but that was it.

does hte laptop have a wireless on / off switch? <not all switches disable the device>

Hardware failure. Had the same thing recently with the parents computer. Swapped wireless card and all was good again. Sometimes things do just go faulty.

Seems like it may be the case.

The system restore to a previous state didn't work.

The wireless card is an Edimax 7728IN which has reportedly had a lot of problems.

Tried the latest drivers from their website, but problem not solved.

If I can't get it to work then ill try a new wireless card.

New wireless adaptor solved the problem.

Just bought a Belkin USB one, plugged in, installed the drivers from the CD and none of their bumpf. Worked first time.

Very strange, I can accept moving hardware to fail, DVD roms, Hard discs etc, but normally the rest of it either works or is dead on arrival!
