Unbearable pain

I had an absess under a molar. Root canal work was done (got called a freak for having three nerves to one tooth!). Immense pain even with 3 anaesthetics when they take the nerves out. 10 years later and the tooth is starting to crumble and now needs a crown :(.

Get it pulled, had problems with my mollar, work done, fillings etc etc but over time the pain just came back. Dentist decided a few weeks before xmas to pull it out, never looked back, pain instantly gone :)

If it's an abcess it's generally a small job.

I had one and a simple drill into the tooth to extract the fluid instantly relieves the pressure and pain. Was a 2 minute procedure an isn't hurt a bit :)

I had a molar get infected under an old filling, leading to it breaking apart while I was eating something on the way home at night.

Cold night air on exposed nerves in your mouth is stunningly painful. I had to lean against a wall for a bit.

I was able to deal with it until the morning when the emergency dentist was open, but if it had been any longer I'd have gone to A&E.

I had way more painkiller at the dentist than is normal. Injection...still hurts...another injection...still hurts...another injection...ended up with some kind of paste or liquid applied to the area as well.

The laugh was that while the tooth was a total write-off, the root for it was as strong as an ox. It took the dentist ages to get it out. She was sweating from the work. Eventually she put on full face protection and went at it with some power tool. I assume that the face protection was to stop my blood spraying into her face, as I was bleeding a fair bit. It was not a good day out, although at the time I didn't really care as long as the pain stopped.

Healed up in a week or so. There's a big gap where the tooth used to be, but it hasn't been a problem.

So...go to A&E. You might have to wait a while, but it's not like you're doing anything now anyway.

EDIT: Ignore that, I've just read that you went.

Hah. Great thread for me to stumble upon before the dentist at 10am.

As for wisdom teeth, mine came through with no pain whatsoever. A friend went to hospital today as his were causing massive pain apparently.

Allways dislike reading threads like this...i got a tooth in roof of my mouth just like my dad he had a abcess due to it and had to have a op which involved cutting the top of your mouth behind the teeth and peeling it back :x then stictching it back together through your teeth

I've had that surgery. I had a "nasopalatine cyst" which is a little cyst that forms in the roof of your mouth because some flesh gets trapped between the bones that knit together across your palate when you're still being formed in your mother's womb. My dentist spotted it when I was 26. Weird to think of it there all that time.

My wisdom teeth came through fine, until one day I began to experience pain which soon became intense in my left one. Upon inspection, the tooth had somehow collapsed in on itself and I was left with half a tooth. I later learned this was due to decay, but this was very odd because I'd not had the tooth long and never required any dental work in the past bar a root canal filling (which wasnt my fault).

Needless to say, a trip to emergency dentist, lots of gum injections, and a considerable tug of war later, I had a lovely tooth to hold in my hand :)

Going into hospital today for xray and possible removal, every day/night now since new years eve of intense pain, swollen gums and sleepless lights. Haven't had anything good to eat because i can't move my jaw

lovely!

What's even more great is my Dentist can't fit me till Feb LoL

I had an impacted wisdom tooth removed a couple of years ago. Mine was growing sideways (ie 90 degrees in the wrong direction) and pushing on my other teeth. They basically drilled/sawed it in half in my mouth and yanked it out. Was an interesting experience :D It isn't all that bad tbh, it's just the sound of it all happening which is the horrible bit. You won't feel a thing.

I've had a wisdom tooth removed before but in no way did this happen before, they can't touch it till the swelling dies down. I'm on so many meds at the moment!

Went into hospital this morning, he opened my mouth and said " oh, that's nasty no wonder you are suffering " Then came the "but", " We can't touch it now because it's so badly inflamed cutting the gums/skinline will risk the infection getting into your blood ". Thus they've given me more potent drugs and booked me in to have it taken out on the 19th Jan.

Two weeks to wait :(:(:(

did they prescribe you codeine or anything stronger? I had a similar problem with an abscess-root-canal which required Tramadol to settle down. The dentist can only prescribe up to Codeine (don't know what the A&E peeps can do) but you'll probably need something stronger than that.

I'm on Co-codamol 400mg?, which doesn't work. Ibuprofen,Antibiotics and Metrandazole. Damn these wierd names :p

400mg is only the paracetamol dosage. 400mg Codeine would probably kill you stone dead. It should have two numbers on it, like 400/8 or something.

8mg of Codeine will do nothing. I've been on 30s before, and that left me quite stoned. My mother in law is currently on 60s as she did her back in shovelling snow the other week, and she loses hours at a time taking that.

Codeine is awesome stuff... I remember having mumps about 4 years ago, and nothing would touch the pain, walking just wasn't an option, John Wayne stylee or otherwise.

The emergency doc gave me some dihadracodeine and I was doing star jumps inside an hour... :D

i find it hard to understand why you have to wait 2 weeks for your dentist? this is unacceptable. either pester them or go private.
