Hi,

This is my first post using linux! I installed Ubuntu (thought id try the 8.04 beta release) on my machine this afternoon following some instructions i found on the internet (dual boot with Vista), but i am having some slight trouble with the Grub loader. When i boot the machine, it gives me the option to select an OS as planned. However, i just got a new enermax keyboard, and the thing doesnt work in the grub boot loader menu. I'm stumped and cannot think of a reason why this is - the keyboard works fine when loading the bios etc, but stops working when it gets to the grub loader. Perhaps it is to do with it being USB or because it has a built in USB hub??? Is this an issue with the beta release that could be solved by using 7.10?

As i said, this is the first i have used linux, and i am not familiar with its workings. However, any help you guys could give would be much appreciated...

I Have had this problem on and off in various grubs using various USB keyboards,
Check in your bios for any options relating to USB and boot time.

Also, may be worth re-running a 'grub install' with the keyboard plugged in so that grub looks for it. (You would need to do this from an ubuntu live cd, and mount your laptop partition's /boot folder as /boot) .. If you decide to go down this road (someone else may come up with better suggestions if your bios does not yield an answer) let me know and I will try and dig out a doc or two

Right - went into BIOS, one of the first options was ENABLE USB KEYBOARD - did this and everything works fine. Thanks very much guys, couldnt have had a faster response/solution - i'm thinking Linux is the way forward...
