Ever wondered what Uncharted would be like if it became an FPS created by the team behind brutal FPS series Painkiller? Well, imagine no more as Nordic Games has announced Deadfall Adventures.

Previously revealed as Adventurer, Deadfall promises to blend first-person shooting with puzzle solving and exploration in a globe-trotting adventure.

Set in 1938, players take control of James Lee Quatermain – a man with many talents – and must escort Jennifer Goodwin, a US agent and former colleague of his, to an Egyptian temple complex in order to retrieve an ancient artefact - The Heart of Atlantis.

Things don't quite go according to plan and Quatermain finds himself part of a hunt across the globe - from the stormy deserts of Egypt to the icy depths of the Arctic and the steaming jungles of Guatemala.

Developed by Farm 51 using Unreal Engine 3, we're promised "one of the most jaw-dropping spectacles this generation has enjoyed".

"Deadfall Adventures marries the ethos of the Saturday morning matinee with the Summer blockbuster to create an original adventure which will grip players from start to finish," said Klemens Kreuzer, managing director at Nordic Games. "We're putting players into the heart of the action, just as they'd dreamed as children, staring at their heroes on the silver screen. It's fantastic to be working on Deadfall Adventures with The Farm 51 from the roots up; it's going to be an exciting summer."

Despite its obvious inspiration from PlayStation series Uncharted, the game's only coming to Xbox 360 and PC – a release date is confirmed for July 30.

The fact it's a FPS instantly makes it less appealing for me if they are indeed attempting to emulate Uncharted. Part of what makes it feel so cinematic is the fact that it's a 3rd person shooter which allows for much more seamless integration of cutscenes etc. Part of Uncharted's charm is the attention to detail with animations, the way Drake flinches when a bullet ricochets near him or the way in which his leaps are almost always slightly different when platforming.

Can see where you're coming from but I'll hold judgement until I see a bigger reveal closer to release.
