I seem to have built up a stack of mail for old tennats in the flat I am living at for the moment.

Is there anything that you can legally do with them apart from whacking "no such resident - return to sender" labels all over them?

Do the Royal Mail have a service for this sort of thing?
 
I am fairly sure you can strike out the old addresses, put the new one on, write down 'Moved to new address' (for example) and then put in post box again.

Not as far as I'm aware... have the had the same problem in the past when I was renting a house which several others had also rented over the years. Royal Mail don't seem to care, I guess it's not in their interest to provide such a service.

Your best bet is to visit your local sorting office and deal face to face with the ever 'helpful' staff behind the counter. ;) Take the offending bundle of mail and explain the situation. With a bit of luck a card might be added to the round your flat is on explaining the situation at your address. This could say "Deliver mail addressed to Mr. 'leaskovski' only. Kill off everything else."

It won't be perfect and stuff may still get through from time to time, but it's better than simply returning to sender, as the sender rarely pays any attention and keeps on posting more guff.
 
^^ might run the risk of losing your own mail too? - if the delivery man/woman is bad at their job
 
I wouldnt mind if it was cash coming through the slot, but it seems to be mobile phone and virgin invoices.

if you know the address then put a line through your address, write 'Redirect to:' and the required address.

If you don't know a forwarding address then put a line through the address and write, in big letters 'RTS' which means return to sender.

In both cases, chuck the envelopes into a posting box when passing.
