1 and 4 stand out as being excellent, number 5 I would say is the weakest, doesn't do anything for me at all and the rest are good but not outstanding imo.

EDIT: My GF disagrees and says number 5 is the best! So there you go.

Good stuff Ali,

1 + 4 do it for me.

#4 seems to have a fault on it though... I don't think it is my screen as I have looked at it a lot but there seems to be a green circular patch in the image.

it looks a bit like (0) a circle with a ring around it. This may be down to me being thick and the problem being caused by the compressed pictures. but i cant not notice it now

#5 doesn't do anything for me. as symmetrical as it is there is something playing tricks on my eyes telling me that it is slanted, or un-balanced on the left. very hard to put my finger on.

p.s how did you get onto that thing :S it appears to be in the middle of the sea. ( i havnt been to Whitby before)

thanks for sharing,
Rick

credit where credit is due, you sure do know how to take a good shot, and you also live in a very odd place. :D

Was this an early morning or late night shoot?

Cheers. I quite like 5 for the evening colours, but it was damn hard to get that shot without people in the way. Doing long exposures, I don't mind people walking past as they just turn into mist over the exposure. But its annoying when people move slowly or stand still.. like they do at the end of a pier!

what cam did you use to take them with messiah khan?
nice pics :)

Cheers. :) I used a Nikon D40X with the kit 18-55mm lens, and the Sigma 10-20mm with a ND6 + ND3 stacked on a Lee filter kit.

Cheers Rick. I can't quite see it myself, but I wouldn't be suprised if there were marks on some of the images. I had major flare issues with my ND filters. I think the combination of stacking filters, not having a lens hood (Lee lens hoods are silly money) and slight dust on the filters caused loads of tiny flares. Ive cleaned them up as best as I could, but there are still likely to be some remaining.

I swam to get to that thing! Hehe, only joking. That's the other side. There are two sides to Whitby Pier/Harbour. The one you see in shot 4, and the oither one where the still is a walkway between the inner section and the outer section.

as i said on deviantart, i love the post processing that youve done to the shots.
good work!
nikon D40X according to the EXIFs

Cheers, and thou art correct :)

Cheers. I got to Whitby just after 11 and was shooting until abot 6. so most are middle of the day, with a couple in the early evening. The exact time should be in the exif. I would like to go back sometime though and shoot at night and very early morning, as well as in middle of winter when there are hardly any people about.

as always MK they are some nice pics mate! Slightly off topic, what lens do you use for your macro work?

im in the look out for a new cam
well im new to it all really

its down to the 400d or a d40x :)

i just have to go into town now and see which 1 i really like.

seeing pics from both cams makes it hard to choice but i was told to go
for the cam that just feels right

Cheers. As gt_junkie has said, I use a Sigma 150mm f2.8 HSM for my macro work. And a lovely lens it is to.

In terms of image quality, I really doubt you will be able to tell the difference between a 400D and a D40X. In terms of features, I would probably say the 400D was slightly better. In terms of the 'systems', ie Canon vs Nikon it really is six and two threes. In the end I went with the Nikon as it felt much better in my hand. We have quite a few Canon 350D cameras here at work and they still don't feel great to me. So my advice is to try both, if they booth feel comfortable in your hand then go for the 400D. If the Canon feels weird, then go for the Nikon.
