Just finished a new build, 3570k in a z77 d3h with 4gb of Kingston hyperx Genesis @ 1600 - 1.65v. Cpu cooler thermalright macho 120 in a z9 plus case. Stock volts for cpu were 1.045v. I have been following the oc guide by tiny tom logan for 1155. So far I have got to cpu @ 1.015v turbo boost 3.8ghz 30mins stable occt linpack fixed voltage with llc set to extreme, performance enhance normal, dram timing selectable (quick). Ram timings 9, 9, 9, 27 @ 1.65v. Just want to run at stock speeds first at lowest volts before overclocking later, how much longer should I run occt for. Is 1 hour long enough ? All other settings are from optimised defaults which I started with. First time ocing self build. Pc is I have to add for my son, mine is in sig below built by Overclockers thought I have ago myself this time. Forgot to say highest temp so far 49, 56, 53, 51. after 30mins. idle (26, 27, 25, 20) case temp 22º.

Ram rated at 1333 @ 1.5v or 1600 @ 1.65v xmp profile is 1600 @ 1.65, was part of a triple channel kit I had spare from my i7 930 build. Open to suggestions as I'm only going by the guy's method online as he doesn't use any dvid offset. Is occt linpack too strong a test ? Should I be using prime instead ? As for to hot I thought temps are nothing to worry about until you reach 80º or am I wrong ? If his methods are wrong then should I be doing something else ? All advice appreciated.

I'm a little confused, so far the cpu has down clocked an run at fixed set voltage of 1.015v fine and when stressed voltage has increased because of the llc set to extreme but not by a huge margin. All this without using any dvid offset. I assume his methods are different. Ram is no good then ?

From memory cpuz at idle clocks showed 1.02v @ 1600 MHZ and @ 3.8GHZ showed 1.03 or 1.044 I think, It cannot use any less as I fixed the voltage. I can check the logs created by occt any way. As for the ram was just trying to save some money, wanted 8gb really. Will look out for an 8gb kit on daily deals. Thanks for your advice so far. Could the offset you mention be on auto ? I will check the bios next time it's on.

Many thanks, I'll check tomorrow and take some screenies and post. Will be overclocking but not just yet, want to just be stable to give my son for now. Have to add a couple of older hdd's and a 8800gt from old rig until funds allow for gpu upgrade. Oh I also have a corsair vengeance kit of 3 x 2gb kit rated at 1600 @ 1.5v timings 8, 8, 8, 24 if's that's any better.

Took a screenie, have now set a fixed voltage of 1.005v still have llc set to extreme. During a 30mins occt linpack run the voltage went up to 1.032v @ 3.8GHZ. The picture was taken just befor start. So is this not still down clocking and lowering volts ?

Yes voltage is definitely fixed, I typed it in manually. At auto it was 1.045v, in box next to cpu vcore typed new vcore and hit enter was going down to amount shown even when fixed vcore was higher. Dvid is on auto at present. Couldn't find manual setting in bios it's either auto or a fixed amount, unless I'm missing something. Which key changes auto to manual ?

Selected box with mouse and just typed in value instead of auto. System off now, is it arrow keys or page up down keys sorry didn't see it first time around. Will try again tomorrow. Just trying to find the lowest voltage for cpu which will allow boot into windows and then turbo boost upto 3.8ghz . Is it worth going any lower ?
