Underage Tatoos

You sure it has been done by a legit tattoo shop?

I've got friends who have had tattoos since leaving school and never went to a tattoo shop. All done by friends of friends etc in someones kitchen. :o

Although still illegal, very highly unlikely to prove who did it.

Regardless of his anger at the mother the tattooist has broken the law?
If we sued everyone we felt hurt by we would end up like the sad cases in America.
If he doesn't sort his relationship out with his ex and his kid, then who is he going to sue when the kid starts taking drugs or one of the 101 other things that kids from broken homes do.

priorities, suing people isn't one

There is a difference between being upset at both the child and his mother for allowing the Tattoo and the actual Tattooist who broke the law to do it...

Would you let the Drug Dealer who supplied the drugs off scot-free just because his mother didn't do something about it, or because the child wants to take drugs?

I would say that his child's welfare is a priority, and ensuring an illegal tattooist is stopped from doing it again is part of that responsibility to that priority.

Here is a man that talks a lot of scene.

I am sure there was a part of it's your father do as you like on his mother part and I am afraid his mother and I are far from on talking terms or even being civil to each other - not what my post is about READ THE OPENING POST IT SAYS NO POINT IN CRYING OVER SPILT MILK .

I do need to make a stand though and create an issue over it so hopefully my 13 year old daughter will not do the same.

I feel a moral type of obligation to report this type of thing , what if the kid was 14 or 15 . The fuzz will be getting a call about this .

Sorry, I wouldn't be able to do anything., :D

Oh and go talk to your ex, by that I mean talk, not shout, not argue, not raise your voice or start throwing things and having a strop, but actually talk like, you know, adults. It takes two to argue!

Thats brilliant, but not what I asked though.

You asked why he would potentially sue.....I would have thought the 'loss' was obvious, albeit a financial loss needn't be incurred to sue for damages. For example, the negligence of the Tattooist in tattooing a child illegally would potentially be grounds to seek a judgement.

Could you perhaps not sue for the cost of having laser treatment for removal of the tattoo? That is if you can sue on behalf on your son. The tattooist has done nothing wrong towards you.

Also if you are concerned about your son's welfare and his mother letting him do whatever he wants perhaps it could be worth using this as part of the basis of trying to get full custody of your son?

what are you going to sue for? what is your loss?

Its not about the loss, its traumatic to a parent seeing their child tattooed, yes its reversible, and can be removed, but it wont ever look the same.. my parents were devastated when i got tattooed, mum cried, dad offered me 2000 pounds not to have it done.. maybe you dont quite grasp what it means to some parents seeing their child have a tattoo done at such a young age.

Fairly sure a Judge wouldn't award damages for parental butthurt, given that the kid appears to have no issue with the tattoo. :p

May as well make some enquiries into the ID thing though.

Yes thats exactly what he should do, compensate him for having it removed..

Ironically a 16 year old is presumed to be competent to make their own decisions regarding medical treatment so even though it was illegal for the tattoo to be done, the kid is well within his rights to refuse any removal treatment.

I can see the damages assessment:

Judge: So...kid what do you think of the tattoo?
Kid: I love it, it's exactly what I wanted
Judge: And would you have it removed?
Kid: Hell no!

Judge: So that leaves the remaining head of claim as parental butthurt. I suggest you start to get used to it otherwise we'll be seeing each other an awful lot over your child's remaining teenage years :p
