Strange thread, so laugh if you like - but there is some logic, I hope!

I've just got a 8800GT, and so was looking to get rid of my X1900XT - sadly, these are worth about £40 now, which co-incided with mygirlfriend's board going *pop* and taking out an old AGP 5700 in the process.

Basically, its now not economical to sell the X1900, as i have a spare board and opteron 144 that Im using to rebuild her PC.

Does anyone know of anything that can *ON BOOT* load low values for Core/Ram speed for the X1900 card? If im keeping it, I'd rather run it at rock bottom speeds, and then whack it up for the 1-2 times a month that it's used for gaming duties - as the alternative seems to be something crappy like a 2400 card, which has about 1/6th the gaming power....

Any ideas anyone? I know Ati Tool can manually adjust the clock speed settings, and has profiles - but knowing what my g/f is like, she will remember to do that approx 1 in 100 times....

Not sure why you'd want to under clock it

Use RivaTuner. Get it to load up on start up, set the "overclocking" profile up and set it to load as the default when windows loads.

Oopps - well, meant to mention in the first post that it seems to be a waste of electricity having it running at full speed when its gaming duties will be about 1-2% of its life.

Ideally of course, id have flogged it for a sensible price and put a quiet mid-range card in her machine.... but the economics just doesnt support that sadly.

Not used Rivetuner in ages, last used it on Nvidia cards - didnt know it supported Ati ones, so i'l give it a bash when I can.

Cheers!

the x1900xt already has seperate 2d and 3d profiles where it runs slower clocks and less voltage when its in 2d mode. if you want to lower it even further then you will have to use ati tool or traytools. there was a guide on this forum which shows you how to do manual profiles for 2d and 3d speeds using traytools on here. think it was by concordrules.

Ati tool has a load profile from boot and exit mode aswell.

Will only work once you get into windows but your bird wont have to remember anything.

Why bother with 3rd party stuff? As was mentioned, CCC (Catalyst Control Centre - 8.2 ATM) provides the option to set any profile you like as the default option, and you can even set up shortcuts so when she boots you can have min clock automatically, but if you want to play you can <ctr> <alt> <oc'ed> :D

The only advantage of Ati Tray Tools is that you can undervolt as well, so if you fancy delving a little deeper and really getting minimum bills it can be very effective - just remember that ATT and CCC don't really play nice together, so if you want to do that, go for 8.2 (driver only) and the latest ATT.

But using CCC is a waste of time because its a bloated piece of ****.

I've been using ATT for 2 years now, and I would never go back to CCC :)

Well thanks for all the help everyone...... but it looks like its all come to naught.

Had to RMA the Socket 939 board as the onboard Audio was kaput, and now seeing as ****** (and world + dog) no longer has any S939 boards, its a bit of a moot point now.

And as for trusting the bay of fleas, I dont....

I'll be right up the creek if my 939 board ever goes pop! Fingers crossed that it wont, trying to stop spending too much on my PC, despite the impression you might get from my sig. :p
