I am putting together a home server from some spare parts I am not using and the only cpu I have is a E2140. It is overpowered for what I want it for so I had a play at underclocking it and ended up with this 12 hours prime stable. Ignore the date I haven't set it due to taking out the cmos battery a few times. I did manage to get volts alittle lower but it seemed to be stable one minute then unstable the next.

Spec :
E2140@960mhz 0.816v
2gb Geil ULL at 1.8v(recommended 2.1v)
DS2r F6 bios
NT06 lite with yate loon DS12L-12 fan
PC7 case
Seagate 7200 & Sammy 640gb
Seasonic 300 watt psu

System won't post if I lower fsb under 120.

I was thinking about doing this with a E2160 I have lying around and an old motherboard. Do you have any way of measuring the amount of wattage you are saving by underclocking vs stock? Be interested to see if its worthwhile, if not I might get an Atom based motherboard to act as a low powered server.

I don't have a clue on power consumption. Just did it out of curiosity and as I will be leaving the server on 24/7, what the temps would be like.
