ahoy

i have a pre built pc with an 2.8ghz p4, its about 2 years old and it makes a lot of noise because of graphics and cooling.

now during day not a problem but at night it is not. i download a lot during the night (i only download legitamate stuff) so its not using a lot of cpu but is still really loud.
is there a way i can underclock my cpu, gfx and what ever else so that it doesnt use a lot of power and will hopefully be easier to cool which will make it quite.

if it has overclocking options then you'll be able to underclock it, i underclocked my e6300 just to see if it could be done, went to 1.0 and it was sloooooow

What cpu & graphics card heatsinks do you have at the moment? Could get silent coolers for them :)

A small investment in decent fans should sort it out without the need to lose performance.

Not really losing performance if he isn't using the PC...

Underclocking is not a problem - use clockgen or similar.

he could just use ati tool and speedfan to slow the ati graphics card and cpu fan (unless ofcourse he aint ati i aint sure whether ati tool allows fan speed modification)

i have no idea what fans are in them, just bog standard ones (pretty loud tho) gfx has standard heatsink 6800GT standard again
