Hey people, i currently have a really bad 1.86ghz old Pentium M laptop, and i'm gonna replace it this summer. However i believe the C2D chips have a bigger power consumption than the older processors, even when montevina comes out?
I don't need all the processing power, so i was wondering if i can underclock it to get some more battery life?

It will have cool n quiet (or whatever Intels version is called) so that should suffice.

Alternativley you will need to do it via software, you wont be able to access the BIOS

Yeah i know that, not sure if any of the windows based OC tools work on C2D processors?
And do you know any charts that compare the power usage of various laptop platforms?

There's no need. SpeedStep will drop the CPU down to around half its usual speed when it's not needed, and Vista has a Power Save scheme which locks the CPU at a certain speed (which you're able to choose).
