Underclocking & CAS Latency

I am buying the Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P and am having trouble finding some low latency 1600MHz memory which is on the official supported memory list.

I have found some 1800MHz memory which is officially supported and has a latency of 8-8-8-27.

If I underclock it to 1600MHz, will it decrease the latency?

If you underlock it yes you can have lower latency, you'll probably get better results entering the settings yourself though.

Thanks. Looks like this might be a good solution for some cheap, low latency RAM.
