Just bought a new graphics card and noticed i am getting 300 fps in tf2 if i underclocked it would it use less power ?

i have an msi gtx 470

why on earth did you buy a 470 if you only play TF2?

Well, he didn't say that was the only game he plays, just that was the one game he noticed 300fps in :)

Anyway, worrying about power usage AFTER purchasing an Nvidia 4xx card is slightly backwards thinking :D

its not the only game i play and seems to be a lot smother with the new card also i only play at 1680 * 1050 . I got the 470 because is was a great price thanks ocuk and from what i have read they can be clocked to 480 levels so if i decide i need more power in the future its there but as the card does everything i want atm

In that case then I guess underclocking might save you a few pence a year. You'd have to keep remembering to change the clocks all the time though which is more hassle than it's worth imo.

There is a command to limit the FPS without vsync, fps_max "61"
Google around on how to put that in your config file.

You won't really see much of an energy saving unless you game 24/7, most of a computers time tends to be conducted with idle speeds if its on at all I imagine so next time look for benchmarks with idle power consumption if you are concerned with power draw.

What is this word 'underclocking' - I am not familiar with it :D

Sounds a bit like blasphemy on this site - maybe we should all be throwing stones at the OP <g>

Give him the CHAIR > Zap, well got one of then free meters that read how much electricity you use. So l'v set it up with the elec-tariff > price per a thurum l'm on, we have 4 TV's, 3 PC's, a chest freezer + fridge freezer, etc,etc and had a wobbler on how much we used yesterday.
