Understanding how GPU's work

Hey all I am a newb to PC gaming and am looking at buying a new GPU.
The only problem is I don't understand the specs:
- Core Clock
- Memory
- Memory Clock
- Memory Interface
- V ram
Could someone help me get my head around this or at least tell me what I sould be looking for?
I'm currently running:
intel i5 ivybridge at 4.5
8gig of hyper x ram at 1600
650 watt power supply
1tb seagate barracuda

I'm running one monitor at 1920/1080
And am looking at spending £200
