Undervolting Opteron 165

Well, I've just got myself a Corsair 520w PSU, which seems to have solved some problems I had been having with crossfire, but not only that, my whole system seems more stable.

So I decided to undervolt my Opteron 165 from 1.35v to 1.325v - Is this ok to do??

I did this because my idle temps seem to be kinda high, 35C on both cores at idle (coretemp), and I'm using AS5 and an Evo 33 cooler with 2 80mm in a Push/Pull config.

So far it seems to running stable at near 2.5ghz.

I'm just wondering if I could lower the v-core further to lower temps again, or will this damage the chip ?? .

You can't cause damage by undervolting. It may become unstable with too low of a voltage, but it will never be permanent damage. Obviously you CAN damage it with too high voltage though, but I guess you knew that.

Edit: Also 35 degrees C is not hot at all. But undervolting can only improve things I guess.

Can you add anymore case fans? Improving the overall airflow of your case would be a better idea imo.

Some 165 steppings do run quite hot.

Mine ran at similar temps whether it was overclocked or not.

1.8ghz gave an idle temp of 32/34c yet an overclock to 2.8 only pushed it to 38/40c which was fine.

The temps to be concerned about are load temps anyway. At 2.8ghz my 165 would not push past 55c. Closer to 3ghz it would get to 62c which some would say is a little hot.
