Undervolting Vcore below VID?

Hello everybody!

My friend has similar spec to me but he has a Q6600 B3 which has a VID of 1.325 which means @ stock he idles at 45 - ish on all cores with a load temp of 60 - ish on all cores. He is unhappy with this as it does warm his office compared to his old E6300 which didn't.

This is a work computer (by work I mean he works 10 minutes a day and games and surfs the rest) and will always stay at stock.

I have thought about undervolting his Vcore but wasn't sure if this is possible and/or a good idea?

Anybody have any experience of undervolting? Thoughts and views welcome.

Well the VID probably drops to 1.28-1.29v in Windows.

Is SpeedStep enabled? If it is then it's already being lowered below the VID when the voltage isn't needed.

All speedstep options disabled. CPUZ reports an accurate Vcore which drops to 1.264 (I think) under load at stock speeds and Vcore.

Just did a 30 min Prime witha Vcore of 1.3125 and the load Vcore by CPUZ was the same at stock, temps down by at least 2C accross the board. Will try again another day but looks promising as long as it stays stable.
