We were just given the heads up :D

Hot off the press, OtherSide Entertainment has just announced they will be rebooting an all time classic RPG, Ultima Underworld for more modern systems. Titled, Underworld Ascension, the developers will be bringing back the classic with some of the original team from the original franchise and headed by the original Underworld designer Paul Neurath

Nice!

I remember being enthralled by this game. Was a big leap in 3D gaming at the time.

Read about this last week and was so excited to see it. Moving from Eye of the Beholder type games to this model was so amazing. Spent many an hour on this and Ultima 7.

Legend of Grimrock was nice but more in the Eye mold.

And after seeing someone recommending Arx Fatalis in a post about the reboot i am half way through playing playing it after getting it on steam.

ya arx fatalis was really almost as good as underworld

I've never played Ultima Underworld. I'll have to see if I can dig it up from somewhere. A reboot sounds like a great idea. Bookmarked the video to watch later.

Yup, Arx Fatalis is a good game too. I must get around to playing it all the way through one day.

I remember hitting a brick wall in Arx a good distance in, you entered a new level to be immediately eaten by a huge dog thing. Never did get past it :(

Ultima 7 is one of the highest rated games on GOG, so I bought it in the sale. Tried my best to get into it, but couldn't.

I could see that there probably was a very good RPG in there, but it was just too old and clunky to persist with.

Personally I do play a lot of old games, but I think mostly only the ones I played when they were new. It's really, really hard to go back and appreciate these old games if you didn't catch them first time around.

I was lucky to have played most of these on first release.

Playing a lot of those Eye of the Beholder type games UU just upped the immersion by a huge amount.

Then the genre gave us DOOM for the fps side and System Shock for the adventurer, both going full screen for immersion.

I never played Ultima Underworld, but loved Eye of the Beholder, Dungeon Master etc. Played Legend of Grimrock through recently too and so always interested in learning about something else to look out for!

Sounds interesting. Ultima Underworld was one of my favourite games when I was younger and was the first game I got when we got a new 486DX. It filled up half of the 20MB hard drive :D

Just put a pledge into kickstarter for it.

Looks like it's going to be funded.

One of my fav games back in the day - I remember I bought a pc mainly for this game ...

agree about arx fatalis - underworld 2 was pretty cool also (bigger). But 1 was the best.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Loved the Under World games. First time I looked down the stairs at the end of a level, blew my tiny mind.
