Just been made redundant at my place.

Im in my final year at uni and have been working at my last company for almost 4 years employed as a web admin / Garphic designer

We have 3 people in our department and the other two lads have been reduced to 3 days. I only worked 3 days due to uni so they just cut me :(

Going to be hard having to go back to mundane Supermarket/bar jobs and becoming someones biatch again but realisticly thats all im going to get with part time work.

In the meen time im going to have to try and get some freelance work.

Rubbish day :(

That sucks bad this close to xmas :(

Hopefully if you've been working there that long redundancy package should make Christmas a little easier?

Hope you can get something else soon!

Its one of them things. My old company got taken to court and had to settle out of court. Must have cost a lot. Its a shame hes cutting a department that actually makes money

cant even get on dole with being a student

Welcome to the big society

bad luck chap, freelance is hit and miss (no matter what you do for a living) but I can think of few better alternatives to having a boss/company that your livelihood is utterly dependent upon. Employees are so much of an expendable commodity these days. Doesn't matter how good you are, or that the minions are what makes a company profitable, when a boss starts thinking about money you might as well **** into the wind for all the good it will do your continued prospect of having a job these days.
Bad times indeed.

That is such bad timing mate. Definitely would not want to be in this position this close to Xmas. Real sorry to hear that.

If you want to stay in IT, try somewhere like Plan-net. Not very nice people to work for but it will keep you in IT until you find something solid (and better) for the skills you got :)

You should give promotional rep work a try, it's ideal for students.

I'm working with a load of them at the minute, most of which are still at uni. Good money for sod all work, one guy there is on £100 a day for demonstrating tv's. Average pay is around £60 to £80 a day, only drawback is that the majority of work is short term contracts (could be a few days, could be a few months).

Get on stuckforstaff.com, you have to pay to use it but it does advertise the most work. You'll have to sign up with a load of agencies otherwise.

Beats working in a supermarket on low pay, just have to be pro-active about finding the next job.

Awful timing and I feel your pain. I was made redundant a couple of years back, was also a Graphic Designer and had to go back to my old job at Argos. Man that was killer, going from doing work for massive multi national companies to stacking shelves and being looked down upon sucked big time. On the plus side, there really does seem to be far more Graphic Design work about and I finally got another design job 3 months a go.

Just don't let it slip mate, get your portfolio together and ring as many recruitment agencies as you can and keep bugging them. There is work out there and you only need one chance so create as many opportunities as possible. I was out of the industry for nearly a year and a half without hearing a single thing back from any applications then I had 4 interviews in the space of a week so don't give up hope.

Best of luck mate and I hope it all works out for you.

I was made redundant last New Years Eve, applied for everything in sight- no luck, started my own business and it's going well. Looking for more people as it happens.
