So, my car (Golf Mk5 1.4FSI S 80) has an unidentified rattling when engine is under load, as well as a drive-shaft type sound (included at end of video).

I've done a quick inspection of typical rattles (heat-shield, exhaust) but all seems very secure and issue-free. Would appreciate a point in the right direction from anyone with experience of similar noises.

The engine mount (near-side / passenger-side / gearbox side) has just been replaced by myself last night and the noise is *slightly* better but still there. Driveshaft noise hasn't changed, rattle has got slightly better.

I'll take a look tomorrow and let you know either way. To me it sounds like something is rattling against the bodywork of the car, it could be a plastic-y sound as it is more of a rattle than a clanging for sure, but wasn't my first instinct when I heard it.

I did notice a week ago that my lower engine mount / dog-bone mount has a small amount of cracking in it, and moves a bit more than I'd expect. Is it possible that this is causing part of the engine / exhaust to rattle against other bits (sub-frame? body?) Or is this kind of failure more likely to be apparent in performance rather than noise?

Said dogbone mount...

Again, it clearly has a bit of cracking etc. But has that actually failed or is it meant to move that much?

Oh yeah. How strange. The rattle is very audible when I listen on phone speakers / headphones (and my laptop speakers). However when hooked up to my bigger speakers it's completely inaudible to me, and I know what I'm listening for! If you wanted to easily listen on your phone/other device please search "MckXsSSyss" on YouTube, or type this link to your browser (goo.gl/ZDQ6iq). Also, this QR code...

Top shock mounts sound like a pain, and messing with suspension isn't something I'm super keen to do. I'll add them to the list, but not the top.
