Has anyone managed to do this? I have a free undelete tool which recovers deleted items which I've used before but this time I wasnt paying attention and on my Canon 20D I selected the option to "Format" from the cameras menu without checkign the card was free!! Oops.

Havent copied anything over the top so its literally just formatted. Any good free tools that work on cards? Im hoping its just like a computer HDD where the files arent actually deleted but have no idea!

Let this be a lesson to always have lots of small cards rather than large ones! Luckily I have lots of 1GB cards so not too much of a loss!!

I've used PC Inspector File Recovery with great success in the past. There are loads of them out there, just have a google.

PS. The majority of them only work if you're using a card reader though, as the camera won't be recognised as a drive.

Amazing! I've just come on to say I found a free tool that does the job and worked well and its the same tool!!

For anyone interested it can be had here:

Took a while to find a free one but they do exist and they can work even when you format the card. Just make sure you dont write anything else to the card to make sure you get most of the stuff back!

I bought a 2GB Cf card a long while back and accidentally deleted some pictures off it went to restore them and found out the shop keeper had used the cf card before hand to transfer the company web site and a whole load of personal photos as their whole site was there, and loads of holiday snaps. I was really annoyed went back and got a discount. Just shows your images are never truley deleted!!!
