Unfunny comedians

Went to see Mark Watson and he was pretty dire, courteous laughter throughout.

Also I unfortunately had the "pleasure" of sitting through a dave spikey gig. Awful.

What is it with some people and comedy that they can't grasp that different people find different things funny? I get how different comedians humour works and why it's supposed to be funny but it won't necessarily make me laugh. It's not about understanding the comedy, things just either make you laugh or they don't.

Loads of well known comedians mentioned in this thread just don't make me laugh at all, are they rubbish? I'm guessing not as loads of people like them. As for the all women comedians are rubbish debate, can't say I agree, there are fewer women I find funny but then then are more male comedians out there generally so that's what I would expect.

Funny:
Jimmy Carr
Frankie Boyle
Chubby Brown

Not funny:
Russell howard...

Humour is about crossing the lines if I wanted to find normal every day situations funny I could make stuff up in my own head! Nothing worse than clean cut comedians unless your a pc tool.

Saw Jimmy Carr in Belfast last night for the second time, as solid as ever. Best part was him attempting accents. He asked for a common phrase of Belfast and someone shouted "Get her bucked!" He said it in a better Belfast accent than I could do, very good show.

I'll admit that I find both Jimmy and Frankie funny but it's more of a cringe worthy humour like dead baby jokes and a personal favourite of mine, Jimmy Carr's greetings cards:

On the front: I'm sorry
Inside: You've got chlamydia

On the front: Congratulations
Inside: It's not my baby!

Humour is subjective, it differs person to person, like South Park and Family Guy, but how anybody finds Bill Cosby funny is beyond me?

I have to turn over if Shappi Khorsandi is on, it's not just her awful jokes, it's her timing and the way she pauses/strings out the last word of the line waiting for laughter

Peter Kay, he's just not funny at all to me, Phoenix Nights is awesome though, I think it's just his stand-up act, him and Ross Noble.

Went to see Mark Watson a few weeks ago and found him really funny!
because your only 22...

peter kay is more for the older generations who grew up when he did that can relate to his jokes

the new "peter kay the tour that didnt tour" dvd is awesome

A lot of it is due to intelligence, smarter people will understand some things that will completely go over others heads and they therefore will not see the funny, it also works the opposite way, smarter people won't find certain things funny as it will be below them, this is why people with lower intelligence think Ricky Gervais is funny, Gervais laughs after everything he says so these people get a cue when to see the 'Funny' and think they should laugh.

How clever, claiming that finding a particular comedian you dislike funny means you're less intelligent than youself.

Don't worry though, I'm sure I'm the only one who saw through your well reasoned arguement.

Not the first person to claim similar in here though tbh.
