<Rant>

during induction week for Uni, we were given our course booklets by our faculty tutors. my course (digital forensics & systems security) is part of the Engineering and Computing faculty of the uni, so all the students in all courses that are part of this faculty were in attendance.

when we were going through our module-list in the course booklets, we (as in, the people on my course) discovered that all of our modules only came to 110 credits, while 120 credits are the minimum required to both pass the year, and to endup with a degree.

we told our course tutor immediately, who told us that one of the engineering-modules had been mistakenly left off.

the next day, he came back to us and said that we need to do two "Add+Vantage" modules (a coventry-uni employability thing) instead of one. as far as i know, DF&SS is the only couse running that has to do two.

when we went to register for our Add+Vantage modules, the staff were adamant that we should only have one, but a quick phone call to the head of engineering sorted that out, and we all chose two.

this is where the problems start. no Add+Vantage module doesn't clash with another. we were told to select the modules we wanted to do, and sort out the clashes with the class tutors...

so, we've spoken to the class tutors who told us to speak to the Add+Vantage staff, who told us to speak to our course tutor, who told us to speak to the class tutors.

anyway, the first Add+Vantage lesson is tomorrow morning, so, we'll all go and beg for mercy at the hands of the teacher...

*breathe!* </rant>

any of you had/having similar experiences recently?

Is this one of the "not worth the paper they are written on" degrees.

Digital Forensics is that where you get out the finger print brush and interrogate some RAM.

:D

I'm having the same problem with Pharmaceutical Science in Hull too - not that they missed out the one of the biological modules from the handbook but that they do not have it on our timetable, we had to make our own initiative to the biology department to get a timetable for it (90% of the degree is Chemistry)

Anyway, only for us to point out to the department heads that there is a clash between the biology labs and 1 of the core Chemistry modules and our professional skills module.

Total mess up and today, we've missed a 3hour lab because of it.

Best way is to protest and they will do something about it to ensure one gets the qualification. Mine is resolved by, apparently, the biological department is willing to make extra lab sessions just for us pharmaceutical scientist. One up to them.

University is big and you are little. Get used to clashes and problems early on in the year, these things happen.

Even my timetable was messed up for today, the rooms for 2 of my introductory lectures had been mistakenly swapped around but it didn't take a protest to figure out what had happened and sort it :)
