My mate is going to Uni in a couple of weeks and he was wondering whether or not he should sell some of his componants and replace them with a SFF build. He plans on keeping his CPU, GPU, RAM, HDDs and PSU and selling his P67 ATX board, case (Can't remember which, definately a mid-tower size though), and cooler (Silver Arrow, recommended by me :D) and replacing those with a low profile cooler, SFF P67 mothebroard and a SFF case such as a SG05. Do you think he should do this since it'll make it easier to transport and all that or will it be a waste of money?

Cheers :).

really depends how he's getting to and from uni. if he is going by car and has a spare seat then i would suggest doing what i do to take the computer to and from uni and strapping it into the back seat. to stop damage in transit i would lie it down so the cooler is on top of the motherboard and also remove the graphics card (a 3 minute job) and package this separately.

Ah, that probably is important. We live on the Isle of Man so it'll likely be either boat and train or flying. He said he'll only be bringing his main rig home during the summer as he has a mac at home.

hmm, so he's got to fit all his stuff into cases he can take with him. seeing that i filled an entire ford mondeo up to the point where the parcel shelf needed to be removed (with both back seats were occupied by my TV and PC) when i went to uni, going SFF could be a good idea.

have you considered shipping the computer in the post to his uni?
(you'll need to remove the graphics card and CPU cooler if you do this)
