Uni & Degrees

Final year Aerospace engineering for me. Finish on the 8th June and my emotions are a mix of my desire to finish exams and relax whilst also not wanting to leave Uni and having to grow up. Sad times!

Only got 4 exams this year. Praise the lord for coursework modules and option choices :D

1st year digital forensics student here.
Been pretty dissapointed with the first year academic wise, the course seems to have just been thrown together and not really done any learning towards the career path, and in some cases towards the actual degree.
Heres to hoping second year is better.

My best year at uni was my final year. I knew the most amount of people, I was the chairman of the skydiving club, I was starting to really understand my subject, and had a great group of friends. Work was hardest then, but at the same time, felt worthwhile.

Im another computing student - Software Engineering :)

On my placement year atm, going fantastic. Been offered a part time job, working from home, during my final year too.

Just submitted a presentation for an award in innovation with the Uni after being shortlisted so fingers crossed there

Always been into fiddling with PCs from being CS Server admin etc to game mapping and such likes so the degree was a good choice.
Very much enjoying it!

finished my second year there and literally just got an offer for a placement year today
going to be working for a design company in london as a product designer, start in a week or two, can't wait :D

Why do I, as a law student, get charged the same as my chemistry studying friend? He gets to play with loads of expensive equipment/use chemicals/gets loads of contact hours... I get to buy all my own books/a relatively small number of contact hours/a general feeling that I'm cross-subsidising other courses :eek::eek:.

government can't be seen to charge some more than others...discrimination

University really is the best time of your life. Yeah you may have loads of work to do and assignments feel like you want to top yourself but enjoy it....when you go into the big bad world of grown-ups to work, you'll wish you were back in the carefree uni days.

This time next week I will probably be laying face-first in my own sick as I will have finished my last exam.

Strange feeling.

This time next week I would have finished my BSc Computer Games Technology degree. I've just secured a fulltime job at a games studio. Uni has been the best time of my life, 3 years of amazing nights out, met a girl I'm pretty sure I'm going to spend the rest of my life with, and made friends for life.

Anyone thinking of going to uni, do it. Those who didn't, you missed out. Big time.

To all those on placements, do you recommend it? Currently in first year of CS and I'm opting for a placement in my third year, however talking to some people on my course they seem to think that doing a masters instead of a placement will make them more employable when they leave.

Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated as I can still change my mind about the placement.

I'm at a bit of a dilemma at the moment.

I was really into computing in my first year of A-Levels and learning to program was all 'ooo wow', but now in my second year it's made me hate it.

I've always done maths all my life and been relatively good at it, I've always grasped every new topic and can already see the next steps before we are taught it. But I've applied to do computer science and it's too late to change now. I almost hope that I go into clearing so that I can hopefully apply to do maths instead. I'm doing a level maths, further maths + computing.

I know this is gonna sound super cheesy. But I've always had maths in my life and going without it is gonna suck...

Only problems I've had at Uni are being skint, and doing incredibly stupid things while drunk and hungover. Like today, for example, I dyed my hair red. A couple of months back, I dived into a concrete floor, because in my drunken state at a foam party I couldn't see the floor, and because the area was surrounded by bouncy castle Walls I thought the floor would be bouncy too. Hence a and e that night, broken nose and very minor whiplash and concussion :D

Oh and there's the odd girl problem too but hey, that's just life :)

If you aren't going to enjoy it then take a year out and work otherwise you'll likely to perform poorly and be miserable. In the grand scheme of things a year isn't that much.

Maths though? Mad man :p

Oi you I do maths :p

Pfft. Someone I knew in first year tried to dye his hair white, intending to end up with the colours of the english flag (from completely black). Ended up a lovely orange.. :D

yesterday i had my final exam for my final year of my degree.
And what a hateful travesty of an Exam that was, but i'm confident i did reasonably well in it.

I have one single academic requirement left, my Dissertation Defence, and then i'm free forever :D

i'll be honest, i didn't enjoy Uni. clubs, boozing and drunken antics aren't my thing and i'm quite introverted, so i didn't find any really good friends, just acquaintances who i doubt i'll ever see again. (Midlanders, you see.)

either way, i'm SO glad it's all over. no more coursework this, dissertation that, project rubbish or revision nightmare *sigh of relief*

And I had a mate dye his hair green while drunk. Turned out it was semi permanent stuff. Much lulz were had :)
