Hey guys, basically my internet at uni has decided to become Local Area only, which as you can imagine is extremely annoying. Any ideas on how to solve the issue?

The internet comes through a cable. I know the internet is still working and the cable isn't dead because when I plug it into my xbox I stil get live as normal so I'm not really sure what's going on. I've tried all the Vista solutions and they offer nothing other than asking my ISP?

Thanks, Stew.

Do you have tech support at the uni?
Is the net down for everyone or just you?
Have you used the magical fix-all of rebooting windows?
Can you ping the router (the default gateway)?

i assume ur ip is set via DHCP?
u could check what settings u have, like what dns and gateway addresses have been set

Hey sorry back at uni so got internet again, I get wireless fine here at the library which is odd.

It's at uni halls, and it's only my internet that isn't working on my laptop, everyone else's is working fine, and as I said the internet works fine for connecting my xbox to live.

No tech support at the moment as it's still Easter holidays.

I can only assume it's something wrong with my computer / settings because I still get the internet fine for my xbox. :confused:

I remember having some nasty network issues with Windows Vista when I used it. I fixed them by resetting some settings.

Load up Command Prompt and copy this in:

netsh int ip reset
<press enter>
netsh winsock reset
<press enter>

After this restart your PC.

Hope this helps. Also sorry if I sound patronizing, just that I'm not sure of your computer skills :)
