Just about to go to the AGM for UBFS (University of Bristol Film-makers Society) and im going to run for Vice president. Hope i get it. I've been a really active member in the soc for the last two years (got beaten at running for secretary last year).

Anybody else have any experience with being on committees for societies in uni?

Everybody in Bristol Uni join next year, it is a brilliant society. I got to film the fashion show yesterday. I was right next to the stage filming, so i could have just reached out and *honk honk*, but then i would have been thrown out.

I am the Publicity Officer for the Aberdeen Uni Engineering Society, and also webmaster.

We have a pub golf outing tomorrow night which is going to be carnage, the winner gets a snazzy green blazer which was bought for 60p

I was President for the Reading University Drama Society, it was a lot of hard work but definately worth it in the end!

I was Film Booking Projectionist (an exec position) of Flix, Loughborough University's film society (the University's longest running and most subscribed to, which pre-dates the student's union).

It's a position you'd only find in a film society I guess. My job was to decide the film list for each semester, to book the films, arange promotional materials, trailers etc, make sure the films are deleivered on time (damn DHL) and collected on time.

The films are usually supplied on 5/6/7 smaller reels and had to be made up onto one large reel for showing, so this was a weekly task usually on the wednesday when the film arrived, and had to be split back down onto the reels it came on and have our adverts and trailers removed before it was collected the following Wednesday.

I was on committee for 3 years and held this exec position for 1 year. I'm in my final year no and have stepped down. Too much time, too little reward and after 3 years I'm about fed up with giving up half of every wednesday and nearly every sunday!

Bah, i didnt get the vice president position, but i did get the role of Technical Officer though.

Anybody in Bristol Uni next year should join in on the 48 hour film challenge. At the beginning of the year. Great fun.

I'm a year representitive for the Aberystwyth Physics Society at the minute. I'm running for President for 2006-2007 :D I should get it as there won't be many applicants, and the current president is a friend of mine :)

I was a player rep for the American Football Commitee for 1 year, then went onto becomming VP - Portfolio (we had to VP's) then the President. After that I ran and got the President of the AU sabatical position which I did for a year.

Vice President was the most hard work, as being a President its just Planning and organising everyone else. Sabatical work was just endless meetings and sorting squables out with less well developed societys that were messing up in some way.

Pity you didn't get it, bu from what I recall, the real power lies if you can get on the Grants Commitee, they decide where all the money the SU raises goes.
