Guys, I um have Quantum of Solace on my MBP in 1080p (like 12GB) and it struggles to playback?

Why is this? I have Higher Performance enabled, and all apps closed? I mean lower bitrate films I have in HD run ok and I'm positive it wasn't like this before?

More to that, HD stuff purchased from iTunes playsback poorly with stuttering etc, at first I thought its because all my iTunes media is stored on my Drobo but I've tested its transfer speeds and its pretty darn good!

I'm confused.com

What are you playing your mkv file (I am assuming) back in? VLC like software or Quicktime with Perian? If the latter, let it "buffer" the whole file, then press play. Is it playing locally or off your Drobo. If off your Drobo you should really move the file locally just to test it is not the Drobo in anyway.

My mum's £399 Acer laptop can play the same file perfectly fine.

Just shows how bad Apple's price : performance ratio is. :(

Har Har....

But For Info:

I actually think it may be a problem with the selecting of Higher Performance / Better Battery Life. I selected back to Better Battery, restarted and then selected Higher Performance and restarted. I think its cleared it now, because as of this post I opened it again and it played back fine (except 1 or 2 skips) but thats totally direct from my Drobo?

Very strange indeed, but also today my Bluetooth went off completely, would not sync my keyboard and thus through searching on Apple's discussion forums I noticed that switching off and disconnecting the power cable for a minute can reset the Bluetooth?

Perhaps this was a glitch as well with the graphics?

Turn off the better Batt life and switch to better performance, worked for me after I downloaded it! Ran It in Quick Time pro, looked gorgeous!

Damn those HD films are space hungry

There is obviously some setting wrong on the OP's MacBook and at least they can look good in public. Your mums cheap arse Acer will make her look exactly that.:D

Also some of us can afford a decent laptop! :p

I'd drag it locally first and bypass the Drobo. They're not the fastest devices on the planet.

Depends on what interface. On FireWire800 it is going to be more than good enough, hell even over USB2 it should manage just fine.

Is the OP using VLC or QuickTime + Perian and does it play OK on the MacBook direct?

Likewise an expensive dress doesn't make it a nice dress ;)

Hence why I didn't use the word expensive! :p

Which part are you refering to as the "woman"

Ok I'll make it nice and simple for you: The Acer you linked to has attempted to make itself look better by being white and having a black glossy plastic lid. It's still too thick, made from cheap plastics (I've played with enough Acer laptops) and has its ports scaterred around the body in odd places.

There are a few PC laptops that look good (but not as good as a MacBook/Pro) imnsho.
