I've just noticed that Ubiquiti have finally released the UniFi V3 software. Has anyone tried it yet?

It seems strange that its now on general release, but the Zero-Handoff functionality is still at beta.

I'm still mostly on 2.4.6 which is rock solid on UAPs and the Pros. I did upgrade one network to 3.1.10 a while back and it flashed 19 APs without a hitch, I'll be putting it on 3.2.1 soon.

V3 doesn't seem completely neccessary unless your runnings UAP-ACs. Regarding the Zero-Handoff; Ubiquiti are often guilty of announcing things too soon, v3 has been in beta since last xmas if I remember correctly. For the price and features though they're unbeatable, I've used some of the airmax kit too and it's really good for PTP and PTMP links.

I've given up using Ubiquiti for anything other than point to point links where it's their radios and firmware on both ends of the link. I tried UniFi but I just got bored with the massive delta between features on their spec sheet and features they actually supported, the terrible supply chain issues, weird radio issues which seemed to suffer from incompatibilities that Meraki, Cisco, Aerohive etc. didn't struggle with, and the quite frankly terrible performance of their AC units.

Cisco WAP561s aren't much more expensive than the UAP Pro, and better in every way.

I'd been considering a load of UniFi access points, but have read quite a lot of negative stuff about them :(.

Do those Ciscos that Caged posted need a controller?

The main draw for me about the UniFi had been the managed AP functions (roaming, etc) but with a 'free' software controller.

I have been running unifi pro's on the beta 3.1.10 software without an issue for the last four months so I am interested to see how the release software is.

It is a little naughty of Ubiquity to market their features way ahead of stable release.

They cluster into their own group, so you make a change on one and it gets pushed to them all. The end result is the same.

The 5xx range can have 16 cluster members, 3xx can have 8. The WAP371 is a brand new release, and is an 802.11ac unit for £170+VAT, utter bargain.
